Dark chocolate protects against atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease of blood vessels, almost always underlie heart attacks and strokes and is associated with deposition of cholesterol on the inner walls of blood vessels and arteries. In their experiment involved men aged 45 to 70 years who had excess weight. Within 4 weeks of them daily used regular dark chocolate, and some specially prepared chocolate with added flavonols, antioxidant components from the cocoa beans. Every day, the men ate 70 grams of chocolate.

According to scientists, in both groups, volunteers in the end decreased the risk of atherosclerosis in men has improved the biochemical blood tests.

Preliminary research experts from Louisiana state University showed that consumption of dark or bitter chocolate promotes the growth of beneficial intestinal flora: in the intestine faster growing bacteria, which produce substances that prevent internal inflammation.
