Low-carb diet 'best for losing weight'
Low-carb diets allow people to lose more than one-and-a-half stones over three years because they boost metabolism, a study suggests.
Scientists behind the research believe the regimen may be best for long-term weight loss because it most successfully overcomes the “bounce” that sees many dieters regain weight after a few weeks.
As weight is lost, the body typically adapts by slowing down metabolism and burning fewer calories, which often results in weight piling back on. However, in a study of 234 overweight adults conducted at Boston Children’s Hospital, researchers found that those adhering to a low-carb diet burned more calories than participants trying out alternative approaches.
