Spots are caused by the medical condition acne, which is particularly common on the face and back. But you can still get rid of your spots at home with just a few simple tips and tricks.

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects most people at some point in their lifetime.

The majority of people will develop acne on their face, while half of people have acne on their back.

If you have mild acne, you don’t usually need to speak to a doctor, but a pharmacist may be able to provide you with advice on the best available treatments.

But if you develop moderate or severe acne, you should consider speaking to a doctor.

“Acne is most commonly linked to the changes in hormone levels during puberty, but can start at any age,” said the NHS.

“Certain hormones cause the grease-producing glands next to hair follicles in the skin to produce larger amounts of oil [abnormal sebum].

“This abnormal sebum changes the activity of a usually harmless skin bacterium called P. acnes, which becomes more aggressive and causes inflammation and pus.

“The hormones also thicken the inner lining of the hair follicle, causing blockage of the pores. Cleaning the skin does not help to remove this blockage.”

Green tea

Green tea has been claimed to help get rid of patients’ spots, according to dietitian Kayla McDonell.

The tea contains antioxidants known as flavonoids, which help to fight inflammation and the bacteria that cause spots, she wrote for medical website Healthline.

While you’ll get some benefits from drinking green tea, the greatest effect comes from rubbing it into your skin.

There are a number of skincare products available that contain extracts of green tea.

Tea tree oil

If you’ve had a spot crop up, one of the best ways to get rid of it fast is to use tea tree oil, she added.

Try applying the oil directly onto the spot, after mixing it with a carrier oil.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera has been claimed to fight bacteria and promote wound healing.

It’s a common remedy for eczema, rashes, cuts and burns, but it could also help to get rid of spots.

Look out for products containing aloe vera on the market.

Acne is most common in young adults than teenagers, and around 95 percent of people aged 11 to 30 develop acne at some point.

It usually gets better over time, and disappears into your mid-20s, said the NHS.

But, on rarer occasions, it can continue to develop well into your later life.

Around three percent of all adults have acne over the age of 35.
